    State briefing :

The name Bihar is derived from the word vihara, meaning monastery. Historically, Bihar has been closely linked with the life of Buddha as he spent most of his time here and attained enlightenment at Bodhgaya.

Despite having areas of great beauty and historic religious links, Bihar is India`s poorest state and is notorious for political uprisings.
